Hi, I’m Rees, a 13-year-old football fanatic.
This World Cup I will be supporting England as I’m English of course and I’m an Arsenal supporter; Gooner! I’m looking forward to seeing how Jack Wilshere, and Alex Chamberlain perform.
But the team that I think will win is Brazil, although I would love to see Belgium do well because they have such a brilliant, young team with so much potential.
All my mates at school are ecstatic about the World Cup, even the ones who don’t watch that much football.
This World Cup has been hugely anticipated mainly because the competition is so strong; the Americas with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, Africa with Ivory Coast, Ghana and Nigeria and Europe with Germany, Holland and Spain.
I know I said that Brazil will probably win but if not, then maybe the winner is from Europe again this year?
I know I should say England but if I should pick a strong team that also doesn't have the best odds, I’d go for Belgium. They may do really well with Eden Hazard, who has been amazing this year at the Premier League. Romelu Lukaku is their strongest attacking player for me and his finishing skills will really complement their solid defence with players such as Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. So will it be England or Belgium? It’s clear I can’t make my mind up!
Obviously, being a Brit I've got high expectations of them, probably too high. The thing with England is that they might be able to take advantage of their group, and the situation they will be in if they get
through. They don’t have the easiest of groups, but Italy are notoriously slow starters and having them in our first match comes in handy. I think the pressure we can exert with the level of pace in our game is great.
If we do make it through, our campaign would look a lot brighter; our round of 16 match would be against Japan, Ivory Coast, Greece or Columbia. That’s a lot better than our last experience against Germany. This could maybe mean a chance to reach the quarter final. We’ll see tonight!
