Kiev residents on Saturday welcomed a warning from US President Barack Obama that there will be "costs" for any military manoeuvres Russia launches in Ukraine.
On Friday Obama called on Russia to respect the independence and territory of Ukraine and not take advantage of its neighbour, which is undergoing political upheaval.
"He is right. Russia should abide by international rules and not be an aggressor," said Kiev resident, Victor Koval. [AP]

Reuters is reporting that Russia's upper house of parliament is also asking President Putin to recall the Russian ambassador to the United States.
Ukraine's army has been put on alert, the country's interim president Oleksanr Turchynov said Saturday, after Russia's parliament approved the deployment of troops into the ex-Soviet state.
